Value Chain, Desalination Plant Development

To take on the challenge of full focus and attention to the early phases, combined with full focus on the end product, including constructability and operational requirements, ROS has subdivided the Plant Development phase into a logic sequence of project activities and events organised in 6 execution phases, addressing the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) elements.

RO Solutions™ Execution Model

The purpose of the ROS Delivery Model is to secure project execution performance and secure predictability of operations through the use of a standardized design and standardized delivery methodology based upon sound operational practises, in combination with continuous monitoring of execution risk exposures

Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation (EPCI)

The figure below illustrates typical values experienced with project execution. As seen, half of the cost lies with procurement, some 30-40% with construction and only some 10% with design & engineering. However, at the same time investigations show that engineering’s influencing power over the end cost of the product is 90%, whilst the similar influencing power for procurement, construction and installation is around 5%, 3% and 2% respectively.

By this it is evident that although the expenditures of costs are much larger in later phases, the possibility of influencing the end (product) cost during the late phases is very limited.

It is the depth and quality of the project definition work during the early phases that decide success or failure. Experience shows that areas such as safety, project schedule and product quality often follow a similar pattern. Utilizing RO Solutions standardized design and Execution Model will contribute to a safe, timely and cost efficient delivery of your desalination plant.
